Front Porch Political Talk Episode 61: Hopefully They Understand

We had another great time recording this episode, tangent conversations and all. As usual the input from the rest of the team brought up items that I had not even considered. Lots of food for thought in this recording, hope you enjoy!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #61: Hopefully They Understand

There is a general misconception that politicians and others in authority understand the full impact of their decisions. Generally there are aspects that are overlooked or underestimated. In this episode we are looking at articles where we hope they take in all of the possible outcomes.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 43: Ed You Cate Shun

This episode went extremely well from a discussion perspective. Granted, we didn't get to as many of the articles as I had hoped. Such is the nature of things and we'll keep an eye on the news to see if they are worth bringing back in at a later date.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #43: Ed You Cate Shun

Given the events of this past week, I felt we needed to focus on education and learning some more about the world around us. To that end we are looking at a number of articles that we can take at least something away from.

While our thoughts and prayers are with those that have been impacted by the terror attacks in France, I made the conscious decision not to focus on them in the podcast. There are a few reasons for this, including the fact that the details of the situation are still being sorted out. There are plenty of people that have already jumped on various bandwagon topics and that's not where I want to be right now.

Articles for this episode:
I had enough articles this week to come up with two complete shows. I've included more than usual only because there was a lot going on this past week. They either didn't fit the topic or weren't enough to make the list.

Articles for Episode 355: Once It's There

There is a concept with government that, "once something's in place, it's almost impossible to remove." That's not always the case but in this episode we're going to run with that theme. The articles we've got on tap point out programs, actions and mindsets that need to be adjusted before they are ingrained in America's mindset.

More articles that I could fit in the regular list but worth reading!

We're a little late on posting the episode this week. No mad libs but a lot of fun talking about the teachable moments that appeared in articles from the past month or so.

I'll be posting the words for next week's Mad Lib on Wednesday or Thursday. You can be a part of the show by adding your words! The more we get the more interesting the results can be!

Articles for Episode 346: Teachable Moments

In this episode we're going to focus on some teachable moments that have come up in the past few months. We're going back over a long period of time with these articles but they're still relevant today! No mad lib this week. Yes, some are disappointed but there were some personal items that prevented the proper execution of it this week.

Episode 333: Learn Something New

If we learned nothing else from this episode we discovered that there are some areas where the participants disagree. This was one of our more heated recordings and provides some interesting launching points for discussion in the future.

Talkshoe had some technical difficulties with its audio storage servers and therefore some players did not pick up this episode right away.  I'm re-posting this to push the episode out again.

Articles for Episode 333: Learn Something New

We learn new things every day. Sometimes it's a useless bit of trivia and other times it's life-changing skills. In this episode we are going to look at some articles that we can all learn from.

Starting next week we are going to be consolidating show notes and post into a single entry on the website. This will serve two purposes… one to make sure I get the show posted on the same day it is recorded and second to ensure that folks can find the links to articles easily. I'll be looking for feedback as to if this is a better format for listeners or not.

Episode 329: Can't Want That

This was another one of those episodes where we started with a plan and veered off of it from the beginning.  Making it through two of the nine articles on the list, we had a long discussion about education, common core, work ethic and even had some welfare and military discussion in the mix. It's a lively examination from different perspectives (we're not in lock-step) about where America is, where it needs to go and what methods work (or don't) to get there. There are also some gratuitous Spaceballs references and the homework assigned is to go watch the movie!

The biggest thing that came out of this episode is that after 328 recordings and conversations, my wife finally decided that she wanted to join in for an extended comment. I'll try to get her involved in the future but the one main article we got to is a huge subject for her.

Episode 284: For Their Own Good

It seems I managed to pull in articles that got everyone's blood boiling! This episode has to be one of the more lively in some time, and not because of bad jokes. All of our callers and a few folks in SecondLife had thoughts to add to the conversation

In our next episode we'll be talking with Mike Garcar, a Field Director for the Ohio College Republican Federation, Romney campaign worker and upcoming author. We'll be talking about his observations about engaging the millennial generation.

Articles for Episode 284: For Their Own Good

One of the things we count on elected and appointed officials to do is act in the best interests of their constituents. In this episode we are going to look at actions that have been taken where this does not seem to be the case. From those who have won elections down to school officials, it seems that reactions and plans are more of an assault on sensibility than anything.

Episode 278: Safety Precautions

A bit late getting this episode posted to the website, sorry about that. It was a good conversation about the events in Boston, while working hard to discuss new items and not simply go on about the same issues everyone else had been talking about.

There was quite the conversation about schooling, especially home schooling in light of some of the articles that have come out lately. Which camp do you fall in? Do you think parents should keep their kids in the system and fight the bureaucracy from within or pull their kids out and challenge the system on behalf of others?

Articles for Episode 278: Safety Precautions

After the events of the past week, what are we doing to keep things safe? What's happening in the government to maintain security levels and how are educators working to help our children stay safe? Based on the articles for this episode, it's a rather confusing and twisted answer. Join us to discuss these and other things!

While it's not on the article list, we will be talking about the bombing in Boston as well.  I am specifically not including any of the "liberals had their mind made up," "Bostonians gave up their guns" or any other of the rants that have been flowing around the 'net with reckless abandon.  We're really shooting for, "different words in a different order," this week.

Articles for this episode:
Twitter was a-flitter with a lot of different news stories this week. While we might not get a chance to talk about them, give the a read and add your comments to the conversation about them. Here are some of the other articles that were tweeted @ECConservative:

Video Comment 8: Two Logical Questions

Well, the morning commute concept seems to work well and so I put it to use yet again.  Never fear, when you see both hands off the wheel, I'm stopped!

While I bring up two specific issues in this video episode, the questions I raise can be asked of any political response to "an issue."  It happens that as examples I use gun control and standardized testing.

What do you think?  Where do you stand on this issue?  Email us at conservativepodcast@gmail.com, post comments on the website or make a response video on YouTube! We invite you to subscribe to our YouTube channel as well as our RSS feed! Episode 273: It's About Control

Wow! This turned into quite the heated conversation, with the whole crew including Naj and our long-lost friend TriSec joining in. While there's no question about the control aspect of the items raised, there were some about the source and drivers.

Our Zazzle store is open to the public! Support the podcast and enjoy a hot beverage of your choice at the same time. Articles for Episode 273: It's About Control

A common phrase in the gun control debate is, "it's not about guns, it's about control." That rings true there, but it's true in almost every area the government is taking special interest in these days. In this episode we're going to talk about a number of different areas where this is starting to be more plain.
