Episode 305: Compliance Factor

Happy Halloween! My apologies again on the delay of posting the episode. I should be back on my regular posting schedule starting with the next episode.  We made it through more of the articles and had a good discussion, the biggest question of compliance seems to be with some newly enacted laws.  I also have to share that, given the opening article, my son is going at Darth Vader for Halloween.

Articles for Episode 305: Compliance Factor

After talking about the concepts of the "Thought Police" last week, I thought it would be fitting to take a look at some areas where compliance is necessary. This necessity is driven either by requirement or in some cases common sense. In this episode we'll be looking at quite a few different items that have been brought up over the past few weeks, not all of them health care related.

There were a lot of other articles to read throughout the week.  Here are a few that are worthy of giving another look:

Articles for Episode 299: Mind Your Own House Part 2

There's the phrase, "Mind Your Own House," which is typically uttered to someone that is too busy calling out the failings of another while their own situation isn't much better. We seem to be in that state in the US now. We are continuing the conversation around Mark Levin's proposed Liberty Amendments and some news stories that fit in neatly with his suggestions.

Articles for this episode:
Very light on the Twitter feed again this week. Here are some other articles for your enjoyment and education.

Episode 286: Modern America

After something of a soft start, this epsiode gets rolling on some of the more frequently discussed issues of the past week. That's something of a departure for us, but one that needs to be made from time to time. Even though it wasn't on the list we even got in some conversation about Syria and the NSA leaker.

There was a great turn-out both on TalkShoe and in Second Life. If you find yourself free on a Sunday evening, stop by and join us. We'd love to have you as a part of the conversation!

The recommended book for this week is "Sh-t My Dad Says" by Justin Halpern. It's an interesting look and a reminder to delve beyond the gruff exterior of people around us.

Articles for Episode 286: Modern America

It's true that we're living in a different kind of America than the founders. Technology has taken the country places never imagined, yet that does not mean our current crop of professional politicians have no precedent for how to do the people's work. In this episode we're looking at how technology is challenging and changing the way America moves forward.

Articles for this episode:
Another busy news week! There are many other articles that deserve some attention and while we'd love to have the time to discuss all of them, we simply can't. Here are the other stories that came across our Twitter feed:

Episode 221: Where is Our Apology?

Ya know, it really helps when I actually post the podcast episode to the website in a timely manner!  Sorry for the delay in getting this one online folks!  We had some fun talking about a variety of things that officials (or public figures) apologized for and other things that will never get one.

Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).

One interesting impact of not posting the episode until later is the fact that I get to include a comment thread I received via IM from one of our regular listeners:

D: I don't listen to Randi myself...I find her too harsh. but I don't think your comparison holds water. Rush is on what, 6,000 stations and is in the news virtually every day. Randi is on what, 6? She might talk a lot of trash, but if it's under the radar, nobody will ever pay attention to it.
ECC: That's akin to saying nobody's going to listen to the pastor of a small church that says he's going to have a Qua'ran BBQ, right?

Episode 215: Dirty Jobs

Well, we didn't let a little ditch distract us from catching up and recording this week's podcast! We followed the same articles - to a degree - and had a fun time for a Monday night recording. With the primary in Ken's home state tomorrow, we spent some time on that subject and talked about how dirty a job politics really is.

Articles for Episode 203: The Scary Truth

Okay, so the truth can sometimes be scary, especially when it reveals something other than what is considered politically correct or popular. Here we have a group of articles that point out the truth that some people would rather have avoided.
There were a lot of other articles that came up, including some interesting slants on the Occupy activities and official reactions and actions to them. They didn't make the list but of course we link to them in case you want to read them.

Episode 201: What Next Big Thing?

So much of the news this week has been focused on either the protests against banks (and capitalism by extension) and the actions that Iran tried to do.  In this episode we worked to talk about those other stories that didn't make the top headlines or all the news feeds.

Articles for Episode 201: What Next Big Thing?

What happens when one or two stories steal the spotlight for a news week? Simple, everything that doesn't ring as loud gets lost in the noise. We try to find those stories, pull them out and bring them up for conversation. Here's what is on the list for this week:
Unfortunately, our show is also restricted in time, so here are the articles that didn't make the line-up:

Episode 156: Enough!

It seems like there have been a few things coming to a boiling point with people. We had a swing of power at the midterms and now more things are starting to become rational... or are they? Tonight we discuss some articles where people are getting their "due" and others where they're almost there.

Episode 155: Pushing More Buttons

Tonight marks the beginning of our third year in the podcast! We celebrate by recording the show late and praying that everything comes together... which is how things started in the first place. Rather than ponder the past, we're looking at some current issues that are pushing more buttons with the general public.

This is a busy travel time for most of America. Unfortunately, it's also a busy quarter for work. You need a tool that will help you conduct business even when you’re not face-to-face with clients or colleagues, and Go To Meeting by Citrix is that tool!  Host unlimited meetings from anywhere, share your desktop or collaborate on a document all from your PC.  Try it free for 45 days by going to GoToMeeting.com and using the promo code PODCAST.

There is one slight logistical correction to what was said in the show. I invited folks to come back and join us for the first show in our third year. I'll blame it on being tired or just not paying attention - it will be the first episode in our fourth year!

Episode 154: Is Anybody Listening?

Sometimes I look at the news and ask myself this question - is anyone truly listening to what the news folks are saying? We have an ethics conviction, a terror acquittal, waivers, pat-downs and outright admissions of failure and all people can focus on is the royal engagement!

This is a busy travel time for most of America. Unfortunately, it's also a busy quarter for work. Episode 127: Why Are We Surprised?

Seriously, folks, how can we be surprised by what is going on in our country today? In tonight's episode we have articles that identify things that, given the narrative, should not surprise any of us.

Actually, the folks that joined us for the show last night pointed it out very well - I was making the assumption that people were surprised. We're not, really. If nothing else, we're generally now looking at everything that comes from the current administration.

As we look toward a primary and mid-term election cycle, I've decided that I'm going to write up a series of questions that I plan to fire off to candidates. As I build the list I'll post them here but I also want your input! Send me your questions and zip code so I can put them before the candidates that are relevant to you! When I get responses I'll be sharing them on the podcast as well as posting them here. You can use the usual methods of commenting to share your questions - email to conservativepodcast@gmail.com, posting them as a comment to an entry here or using the call-in comment line.

EPISODE Ninteen: Dark Nano TSA Apologists

(Edited to give it a less "questionable" title)

Warning! The title may be highly questionable but the content is NOT! Tonight we managed to plow through quite a few articles during the show and managed to put some innuendo into almost every one!

Ken had to comment about Florida's recent spate of school sex scandals including one where a substitute was test-driving boys for her daughter. Hatton had to ask if this is the new version of sex education!

Next we touched on the issue of a woman with a nipple ring that is demanding an apology from the TSA.

Ken had quite a few things to say about Florida's apology for slavery and we talked history for a while. Then we moved to the screamer, Howard Dean, and his call for superdelegates to pick a candidate by July 1, trying to combat Rush Limbaugh's Operation: Chaos.

Finally we had to touch on two issues that might be considered environmental ... the Tata Nano and the Hour of Darkness.
