Episode 340: No Need for Fiction

I think this was one of the more peaceable episodes. We managed to get through more articles than we usually do and there was a lot of ground covered.

Articles for Episode 340: No Need for Fiction

Over the past week I've found a number of parody or satire articles that made their way to Facebook and/or Twitter as if they were true stories. In this episode we're going to look at articles that outline why we don't need our blood pressure raised by those parodies, real news is bad enough!

Something interesting, in last week's episode we has a number of visitors in Second Life that meant to bring more disruption than discussion. Unfortunately they partially succeeded, as they brought the sim down. In doing so, however, they failed to recognize that their presence increased the traffic to the site, the podcast and the sim. Our numbers have hit new highs and this week I was notified that our Twitter feed was added to the "Top Political Brains" list at Ticckle.com which apparently is an opinion conversation site.

These extra articles are also sources of ire for a variety of reasons.  There's more after the break...

Episode 316: Myth Busting

This turned out to be one of those episodes where working the title into the conversation really didn't work out so well. That's okay because there was plenty to talk about and it was generally on-topic. No big surprise that we didn't make it through all of the articles for this week which means there's always a chance they will be brought up further down the line.

We are now a part of the Boost Radio Network! The fundraising goal for the first quarter was met but there is still a long way to go to cover the entire year. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. And yes, that is Ken driving a boat in the picture (or at least pretending to)!

Articles for Episode 316: Myth Busting

There are historical inaccuracies that get repeated so often that they become accepted as truths. In this episode we look at a number of them that span the political gamut from the NSA to poverty to jobs to climate change and even the economy.

Thanks to your support, this episode will be our first to air on the Boost Radio Network! We will be playing from 7-8pm on Wednesday nights and look forward to a strong working relationship with the hosts. This does not mean that our fundraising campaign is done though, as we still have three more quarters to fully fund. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 314: Reviewing the Year

This was an interesting review of the year with some new news, some old news and a bit of a diversion. We ended up spending time talking about the upcoming year's TV shows and what they represent in our country. Ken wasn't able to make the show due to a traffic jam but he did make it home safe and sound.

We've officially launched our funding campaign to join the Boost Network in January! We have a few days left to get to the first goal of $400 in order to officially join the network. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. If we do not make the goal then the money is going to be used to improve the podcast in some way, so don't think that your donation is going to just be lost.

Articles for Episode 314: Reviewing the Year

It's the last episode of the year and we're taking the time to look at some of the larger items that hit our discussions in 2013. There are new elements to some and reminders that others are still unresolved. This promises to be an interesting episode all around!

Our fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level is still going! We are still shy of the $400 needed to make the first quarter in order to join the Boost Radio Network. This represents a huge change for us and we're excited to see the results. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

Merry Christmas! The days seemed to get away from me posting this episode to the site and for that I apologize. This was a much more lively episode and we had a lot to discuss. It's interesting to listen to the agreements and disagreements even among our own callers. For example, Larry asked what good it did to bring up Mark Levin's comment about the Republican party and Ken was there to disagree with him and point out that it's a valid complaint. This was a thought-provoking show in a few different ways

Articles for Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

With the blow-back on the Phil Robertson "Duck Dynasty" comments this past week, I thought it would be good for us to talk about the impacts of speaking what we believe. We're going to take it from a slightly different vantage point. We're going to talk about what we believe, what we see liberals and those considered mainstream republican and the reflection on their beliefs.

Our fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level is in full swing! The final goal of this campaign is $1,850 and will allow us to join the Boost Radio Network. This represents a huge change for us and we're excited to see the results. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 307: Following the Rules

We had a lot of fun with the recording session tonight! Ken was off for the night with a family event and Larry and Joesf stepped in for the evening. We talked about a number of different items (other than health care) where people aren't necessarily following the rules.

Articles for Episode 307: Following the Rules

After our last few episodes I think it's time to take a look at some areas where rules, both new and old, are sometimes followed and sometimes broken. We've got a number of stories on a variety of topics to talk about. It promises to be a fun time!

Articles for Episode 299: Mind Your Own House Part 2

There's the phrase, "Mind Your Own House," which is typically uttered to someone that is too busy calling out the failings of another while their own situation isn't much better. We seem to be in that state in the US now. We are continuing the conversation around Mark Levin's proposed Liberty Amendments and some news stories that fit in neatly with his suggestions.

Articles for Episode 297: Discriminating Minds

Given that this week included the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech at a rally in Washington DC, I wanted to look at some modern impacts of the policies and how off track or obscure some of them have to go to attempt to relate to it. In this episode we are going to be talking about a number of different subjects, most of them claiming discrimination. Are those claims valid?

Episode 296: Roles

This was a rather interesting episode. We didn't make it through all of the articles but that's not a big surprise. The articles clearly pointed out a point that government has expanded well beyond its originally designed role set.

I did assign a bit of homework with this episode. Write down the job descriptions for elected officials you can think of without looking them up, then go online and check your work. I mentioned President, Federal Senator and Representative, State Senator and Representative and Governor. If you have other offices you want to look up feel free!

It's time for a new book recommendation from our sponsor! You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audio book by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up. I've been using my Audible subscription to listen to The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. They list not only the changes that Mr. Levin recommends but also the historical back-story for each one. This listening experience will have any jaw on the floor, both with where the country has gone and where politicians promise to take it. We'll actually be taking some time during upcoming episodes to discuss these proposals at length, so if you want to participate in them take advantage of an Audible credit and get the book now!

Articles for Episode 296: Roles

When we look at current events through the lens of history, we see that that changes in our country have come from many places. Both those politicians that would push a Progressive agenda and citizenry that are either idly or actively complicit are to blame.

If you ask the "man on the street" what the job description for various elected offices are, I'm pretty sure you would get a wide array of answers. The same is true if you asked candidates or elected officials. The sad thing is, most of them would be incorrect. In this episode we're going to talk about the roles of various offices as they have been interpreted and implemented. Articles for this episode:

Articles for Episode 292: This Can't End Well

There was quite a bit that happened this past week and with many of the stories I read, I shook my head and said, "this can't end well." Those are the articles that are up for discussion this evening. With everything from the EEOC to Duck Dynasty to Jimmy Carter, you know it's going to be an interesting discussion!

Episode 291: Getting Away With It

In this episode we talked about how elected officials, media outlets and others are, "getting away with it," when it comes to pushing their own agenda rather than doing what should be considered their jobs. From the Texas abortion law to the Justice Department/NSA and even Obama and the media regarding the George Zimmerman verdict and Stand Your Ground, they're still getting away with it!

Episode 289: Still News But Not In It

This was an interesting episode, with a few tangents and some good conversation. Being on vacation my schedule got thrown a bit so my apologies in posting it late.

We didn't get through all of the articles (when is this ever a surprise?) but we did talk about things that for one reason or another have been taken out of the limelight for whatever reason.
