While the primary contest continues to move forward, I wanted to take a step back and look at various destinations that the changing political landscape in our nation could point to. We are going to discuss the potential of these and other issues in this episode.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 45: Losing Patience

I think this was one of the most cathartic and complete shows that we've had in a long time. Every week we end up with a lot of questions, regardless of the conversation or subject. In this episode I started off rather angry and the conversation actually helped me put some of the things that I was getting emotional about in a different light. Often having a different perspective or deeper insight into an issue can invoke more thought and I think that's what happened here.

That's one of the big reasons we do this show. Sure, we have fun with different topics and try not to rehash the same stories that are brought up by other shows but at the end of the day it's about the sharing of ideas and insights. We don't have to agree on everything all the time; rather we respect each other's right to their opinion. Be sure to share your thoughts on the articles or our take on them using one of the many methods provided. We'd love to hear from you!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #5: Making It Up

It's time for another example of real headlines that just can't be made up. We have fun with these from time to time but need to keep in mind that they represent the insanity that can exist today.

Episode 347: Jumping the Shark

We managed to talk about jumping the shark without doing so ourselves (unless you count the madlibs, I don't). It was fun but if you're Obama-sensitive you might want to turn away. There are a lot of interesting nuggets, including mentioning of an NPR story about the EU's regulation on vacuum cleaners and Happy Days.

For those of you who missed the MadLib during the recording, here are the results:
A recent scary poll shows that the majority of people are terrified of public governing.  They would rather walk across burning jacobites or swim in goat-infested waters than give a speech in front of nuns.  This hearty fear can be overcome in five easy voters:
1. Organize all of your gym teachers on a piece of plank.
2. Remember to start your speech with a funny Senator.
3. When speaking, look your audience straight in the feet and speak in a strong and stupid voice.
4. Be simple.  Never use damaged words that are over the audiences eyes.
5. Always keep a pitcher of mercury next to you, in case your shin goes dry.

Articles for Episode 347: Jumping the Shark

The concept of Jumping the Shark is used when a production does something extraordinary in order to attract attention but instead signals its decline. The phrase came from the Happy Days episode in which Fonzie literally jumped a shark in a stunt.

These days, the term applies to almost anything and tonight we're going to look at politicians that have been doing an excellent job at it.

Episode 339: Fighting For Freedom... or Something

We actually managed to stay mostly on subject for this episode, which as regular listeners know is difficult in many situations. Articles for Episode 337: Things We Learn

On this show we talk about learning things all the time. In this episode we are going to look at some very educational articles and discuss what we learn from them. One point of relief for some listeners, I've done my level best not to include anything about the dreaded Common Core subject!

Episode 324: Shameful Actions

This was a fun episode! It was interesting to see the take that different audience members had on the t-shirt story as well as the whistleblower concept. Also, there's a shocker in this one where I actually agree with Senator Gillibrand!

Personal issues on my side kept me from posting until today. As I wrap up my MBA I may be behind on posting but the recordings are definitely being made.

Articles for Episode 322: Clowning Around

Every week we open with a fun or human interest story and through the recording we try to have fun with the conversation. In this episode we're going to look at some stories that fall under the heading of, "you just can't make this stuff up!" Whether we're looking at actual clowns, spending, marriage or climate change these articles will definitely start a conversation. How much of it turns into rolling punch-lines is up for debate!

There were a lot of these kinds of articles this week. Not all could make the list so here are some others.

Articles for Episode 319: Godless

No matter how you look at it, respect for the religious beliefs of citizens is sorely lacking in this administration. Tonight we are going to discuss a number of articles that are hilighted by a statement made by, of all people, Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are plenty of examples of this and there are plenty of others that we've discussed in the past. Given the time, there are some off-topic items that we'll look at as well. Thanks to your support, this episode will be our first to air on the Boost Radio Network! We will be playing from 7-8pm on Wednesday nights and look forward to a strong working relationship with the hosts. This does not mean that our fundraising campaign is done though, as we still have three more quarters to fully fund. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 315: Freezing Out

Suffice to say that there was nothing frosty about this episode beyond the weather references and the points that we were trying to make. There were also come interesting learning points about the history of education and the impact that it has on the perception of students about America's past. The weather also had an impact on the posting of this episode. We're thawing out now!

We're extremely close to reaching our goal of joining the Boost radio network! We only need to get to $400 to fully fund the first quarter's participation.
