Front Porch Political Talk Episode 33: The Way of Doing Things

This was one of those episodes that prove we're not all in lock-step when it comes to things. That's not to say that it was a good conversation but things do get tense in a few spots.

Episode 354: Get Your Story Straight

We got the story straight and had a fun time talking about it! We even made it through most of the articles this episode, which is quite the accomplishment. Also, thank you to all that showed your support for me on my MBA. I'm done and can now focus attentions on other things around here!

Articles for Episode 354: Get Your Story Straight

When you hear some reports, you wonder if they've got their stories straight. With everything going on this week, it's been easy to find those areas where the message might be a bit off. We're going to talk about those in this episode.

My apologies for the delay in posting the episodes lately. I have been working on my MBA and am down to the end of my final term. The need to complete assignments has taken priority over the show in those cases. The good news is that by the time the next episode records I'll be done. Thanks for everyone's patience!

Episode 330: Striking an Accord

This episode turned out to be a good example of how to look beyond the headline to the content hidden underneath. It seems like so many of the stories had more to tell than the title implied. It was a great conversation!

At the end of the episode is a dedication to one of the show's big supporters. Jimmie Jones, my step-father and role model passed away in April and I felt it only fitting to dedicate this show to him.

Articles for Episode 330: Striking an Accord

While compromise is not a dirty word, there are still concepts and beliefs that can not be given up on. In this episode we're going to discuss areas where reaching an agreement sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

My apologies for the short notice on last week's episode. There were personal issues that had to be dealt with. An explanation will be made during this recording.

Articles for Episode 319: Godless

No matter how you look at it, respect for the religious beliefs of citizens is sorely lacking in this administration. Tonight we are going to discuss a number of articles that are hilighted by a statement made by, of all people, Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are plenty of examples of this and there are plenty of others that we've discussed in the past. Given the time, there are some off-topic items that we'll look at as well. Thanks to your support, this episode will be our first to air on the Boost Radio Network! We will be playing from 7-8pm on Wednesday nights and look forward to a strong working relationship with the hosts. This does not mean that our fundraising campaign is done though, as we still have three more quarters to fully fund. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. If you have any problems donating please contact us at conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Articles for this episode: Another short reading list for the other articles. Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

Merry Christmas! The days seemed to get away from me posting this episode to the site and for that I apologize. This was a much more lively episode and we had a lot to discuss. It's interesting to listen to the agreements and disagreements even among our own callers. For example, Larry asked what good it did to bring up Mark Levin's comment about the Republican party and Ken was there to disagree with him and point out that it's a valid complaint. This was a thought-provoking show in a few different ways

We've officially launched our funding campaign to join the Boost Network in January! We have a few days left to get to the first goal of $400 in order to officially join the network. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. If we do not make the goal then the money is going to be used to improve the podcast in some way, so don't think that your donation is going to just be lost.

Articles for Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

With the blow-back on the Phil Robertson "Duck Dynasty" comments this past week, I thought it would be good for us to talk about the impacts of speaking what we believe. We're going to take it from a slightly different vantage point. We're going to talk about what we believe, what we see liberals and those considered mainstream republican and the reflection on their beliefs.

Our fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level is in full swing! The final goal of this campaign is $1,850 and will allow us to join the Boost Radio Network. This represents a huge change for us and we're excited to see the results. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. If you have any problems donating please contact us at conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Articles for this episode:

Episode 308: Reassuring Words

Quite a trip down the metaphysical path tonight. We spent a lot of time talking about the Atheist megachurch and referencing the article about the athiest chaplain story from the past. We also discussed the statements made by John Kerry about the truthfulness of the President and related it to the fact that polls are now showing the American public disagree, at least where the Affordable Care Act is concerned.

Episode 305: Compliance Factor

Happy Halloween! My apologies again on the delay of posting the episode. I should be back on my regular posting schedule starting with the next episode.  We made it through more of the articles and had a good discussion, the biggest question of compliance seems to be with some newly enacted laws.  I also have to share that, given the opening article, my son is going at Darth Vader for Halloween.

Articles for Episode 305: Compliance Factor

After talking about the concepts of the "Thought Police" last week, I thought it would be fitting to take a look at some areas where compliance is necessary. This necessity is driven either by requirement or in some cases common sense. In this episode we'll be looking at quite a few different items that have been brought up over the past few weeks, not all of them health care related.

Articles for this episode:
There were a lot of other articles to read throughout the week.  Here are a few that are worthy of giving another look:

Episode 302: Out of Control

Well, I managed to forget to post this episode to the website for an entire week! There's really no excuse for that and I apologize. I could be snarky and blame it on the shutdown... but that'd be inaccurate.

It's extremely obvious that those making the decisions about what's being hit by the shutdown are picking the most painful aspects of government services to close. Thankfully, it appears that the American public isn't taking this, "cause pain and blame the other guy," technique all that well and there's not a lot the media can do to spin it.

Articles for Episode 302: Out of Control

The government shutdown is here and in full effect. It seems like, as with the sequester, administration officials are working to make it hurt the American people as much as possible. Democrats seem to be turning at best a malevolent stare at the people caught in the middle of a debate that should have happened years ago. At worst they appear to be actively working to come up with new ways to cause pain.

In all of this there are other things going on, but the antics of elected and appointed officials again capture our attention. In this episode we're going to talk about the shutdown, the not-so Affordable Care Act and other news items from the week. Articles for this episode:

Articles for Episode 301: What Are We Fighting For?

In our last episode we had a great time interviewing Jane Corwin, a conservative Republican Assembly member in New York. She pointed out many things that she is working or even fighting for in Albany. In this episode we're going to take a step back and look at the larger stage to see what else is being fought for (or against) at the national level. Articles for this episode:

Episode 250: More Scary Political Games

Yeah, I know we could have talked more about the debate, unemployment or other things that have folks riled up.  There's a lot of issues happening and rather than just throw our two cents after what other folks have said, I always like to look for the stuff not on the front page.

Tonight we had Tom Clement, current Chair of the Republican Party of Second Life as well as my previously "mysterious" co-worker, Marshall, on the call!

Articles for Episode 250: More Scary Political Games

After the video comment from yesterday, I found some other scary political games for us to discuss on this episode.  This is what we have lined up for this time 'round:
I started to line up articles about the debate, and there are some in the "extra stories" list. That said, everyone else is talking about the debate. I thought it would be more useful to discuss other things. Here are the other articles I pulled this week:
