Transparency WIN!

No, the walls on Capital Hill didn't turn to glass, but there's now a new process for how we (that is, Ken and I) share the stories that we find that might make it on to the podcast - Twitter!

Instead of a sneaky set of emails, we'll be posting our finds on Twitter for all the world to see (and possibly comment) during the week.  I've already done a few.  You can find the articles by following @ECConservative or simply looking on the website - there's a "recent tweets" section there now!

Oh, and sorry to our Twitter friends that this announcement comes out twice.

Thanks for your continued support of the podcast and, if you can, join us for the conversation!

East Coast Conservative joins the SOPA Strike

I have made the decision to "black out" the blog portion of the East Coast Conservative Podcast for the day in joining the "SOPA Strike".  You can find more information about this at

Why would a conservative podcast join in on something like this?  The answer is simple, it's not in an effort to promote piracy, it is in the simple fact that the legislation as written creates a set of federal powers that neither the Constitution nor the constituency would ever have thought of approving.  The legislation, as written, has the framework to create a form of legalized censorship that no individual or small business would have the finances or clout to overcome.

In short, the bills contain the ability for the freedom of expression, regardless of political or societal bent, to be censored.  This is at odds with the most basic freedoms that are guaranteed to all people.  Sites across the Internet have joined in with this protest and we are proud to add our voices to this day.

7th Annual People Choice Podcast Awards

I know we've talked about supporting the show in a number of different ways recently.  Here's one more way you can do just that, and it won't cost you anything!

It is nomination time for the 7th Annual People's Choice Podcast Awards and this year, we're asking for your help in putting us in the "Politics/News" category at  You can only put one nomination form in, so if there are other podcasts/genres you want to nominate for, get them together and submit them before September 30th.

Thank you for your support!

Monday Evening Announcements

Monday Started Early and is Way Too Long

Just a quick update on the status of Episode 140.  It's been recorded and is in the process of being edited.  Unfortunately time is neither my friend nor friendly.  I'll have that show online as quickly as I can.

In other news, I received the following group notice from the GOP of Second Life:
For personal reasons we will be closing the GOP Cafe in its current form on Sagamore Island. While we hope to be back in another form soon, for now we will be supporting our party virtually. I want to thank all of you who over the past 2 years have visited the Cafe. It was created on the concept that ideas and views could be discussed and debated without the acidic retoric seen in some places. We succeeded more than we failed. Our eyes remain on victory in November and a new Republican Majority.

As of this moment, Sagamore is closed an no longer the home of the GOP of Second Life. I'e been assured that this is a "for the momentThe group owners are in the process of identifying a new home for the group. In the meantime, we'll be finding a new home in Second Life.

Finally, keep an eye on the site in the future.  Tonight we post the first article by our guest writer.  For shows moving forward I'm going to work to post the list of articles and questions on the site before the show.

Episode 137: Unmentionables

We've asked, "why would they say that," before and in tonight's episode have even more unmentionables. No, we're not going to give a page by page of the Victoria's Secret catalog, we've got history, swearing, judges, signs, unemployment, ordination, animals and the pleasure police!

Click Here to download the show or open the Blubrry player on the right (the blue round thing). Thanks for listening!

We're also opening up the show to user submissions! If you have a news article you want to send us, you can share it with us via email to or post it on our Facebook page.

Also, two bits of administrata - there is no podcast next weekend because of a vacation. Also, for those in SecondLife, the podcast streaming location is moving once again. We will be streaming out of the Sagamore sim from a spot provided by the GOP of SL. Links, landmarks and SLURLs will be posted one the particulates are worked out.

Taking a Weekend Off

Everybody needs a vacation sometimes!  This upcoming week is one for me (Hatton) and things are playing out that the podcast can't be recorded.

So we thank everyone for following the show and invite you to join us next weekend when we pick things back up!  If you're dying for a conservative political podcast to listen to this week, here are a few that I listen to:

The Zoo Radio Show is a weekly show that records on Tuesdays at 8:30pm
Oatney on the Air is an off-schedule show by David Oatney
The Truth and Hope Report is a blog and podcast by Adam Graham

Additionally, here are some of the articles that have been shared in the past week - depending on the news cycle they may or may not make it in to next week's show:

After Sensationalized TV Report, Vandals Strike Nashville Mosque - This is an example of the fact that regardles of how well educated and "tolerant" a society can become, there is still ignorance, fear and hatred.

Cocaine found hidden among Valentine roses - I've heard of an intoxicating smell but come on!

Christian speech targeted as 'hate' - From the article - The note said, "You people are like the KKK but only in the form of religion ... you should be ashamed of yourselves." Guess the statement I made on the first article applies to this one as well - only this time the hatred seems to be coming from people that are demanding "tolerance."

NY boy, 11, faces charges over pencil attack - Right, let's arrest the students using pencils as weapons, not the ones using guns, knives and drugs. Great choice!

New York Senate Expels Monserrate Over Assault - Here's a lesson for anyone that wants to be in the New York Assembly - don't beat on your girlfriend... it could loose you your job!

Governor Paterson: "only way I'm leaving early is in a box""The only way I’m not going to be governor next year is at the ballot box, and the only way that I'll be leaving before is in a box..." BEST. QUOTE. EVER.

Comptroller: School reserves too rich - Given the economic crisis in New York, I don't blame the schools for stockpiling money. It's a bitch of a thing to have half your budget disappear.

Beer May Be Good for Your Bones - To quote Benjamin Franklin: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Have a great weekend everyone and be sure to join us for the podcast next week!

Site Move Completed

In the past couple of episodes, I've made hints that things were about to change on the website... and now as you can see, that change is complete!  The decision was made to migrate the podcast's website from my private hosting to Blogger for a few different reasons.  I hinted at a few in episode 106 but for those that might ask again, here are a few answers:

You will notice quite a few of the differences immediately:

  • Flash Player: I have removed the flash player from each episode.  Instead you can use the Blubrry layer located on the top right-hand side of the page.  This player runs in a pop-up window that can continue to run even when you navigate away from the site.
  • Tags, Tags and more Tags: A few blocks down from the Blubrry player is a section called "Things We've Talked About".  This contains a list of all the different subjects talked about in the past.  Clicking on one of them will show you all of the posts that have that tag assigned.  The larger the font size of the word, the more it has been discussed.  For example, Obama has been talked about more than Jesse Jackson, so the font size of his name is larger.
  • Layout: More compliant and hopefully easier to use.
  • Additional Authors: Now Ken (or anyone else we invite) can create posts on the site without having to go through me first.
For you, the listener and reader, the change-over should be done already.  The RSS feed has stayed the same  ( and obviously the website URL has moved here as well.

There are some things that might be a bit "glitchy" for a while.  The RSS feed will be getting odd updates because of my need to go back and tag the past entries.  I also have about 35 more posts to bring over, mainly from early 2009.  I've already done a lot of tagging but it's a process that takes quite some time.  Because of that, I'm going to be turning off the feed updates on Facebook until things are at least partially completed.  I found out the hard way that the Facebook feed tools will re-publish anything that has changed, not just new entries, and I don't want to be accused of spamming anyone.

If you have questions about the move that I don't answer here, by all means ask!

State of the Podcast

Hey folks, wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone on where the show is now and were we are planning to go moving forward. Here's a short summary of the items to touch on:
  1. You will start hearing more about sponsors.
  2. We've launched a line of products to buy. New products are being added to the ECC Stuff Store
  3. We're on Facebook! Check us out at (working on figuring out how to shorten that.
If you're interested, click the "more" link! Some time back you heard a spot about the Blockbuster subscription sponsorship. We've added another sponsor to the list... GoDaddy! I'm not going to post the info here, you'll have to get the codes for discounts on domain names, hosting and other services by listening to the podcast! There are some really good savings to be had there though... domains for $7.49 and 10% off hosting and services. We have added a new store to sell shirts and other products. Powered by, you can find the "ECC Stuff" store at Right now there is only the one design but I'm working on adding more all the time. Let us know what you think! We've added a Facebook page as well! Both Ken and I have been on Facebook as individuals for some time but now the show has it's own page, Click Here to check it out! We're going to try using that for discussion threads about episodes and other things. I'm also working on a voice comment system powered by Google Voice - you can see the "Call Me" button under the Talkshoe widget. There are some issues with it right now but we should have it working soon. Calls are sent straight to VoiceMail and we will have the option of incorporating calls in with our recordings if they are appropriate! Have suggestions on what you want me to try out on the site? Let me know! Comments can be emailed to Thanks for listening!

In Case You Haven't Noticed

There's something new at the East Coast Conservative ... that would be blog entries! Because of the changes that have been made to the podcast, there are news stories that have gone unmentioned on the show. To make up for that, Ken and I are going to start posting blog entries throughout the week. By doing this, Ken and I can focus on issues on Sunday that need the full hour's worth of discussion. To see the entries, make sure you are subscribing to the RSS feed from our site. That feed address is Thanks for listening... and reading! If you like what you see and hear, tell your friends and blog about us. If you don't send us a comment and let us know why.
