Podcast/Show on Hiatus

Effective immediately the Front Porch Political Talk show is taking an extended hiatus.

Those are very difficult words for me to write but I have to. For a number of different reasons the show has, for the moment, run its course. We have always had the goal to provide insight and information from different perspectives and on different issues. The current media and political climate makes achieving that goal week in and week out neigh on impossible. The arguments are repeating themselves and if we continue on the path we're on it turns into either an echo chamber or a broken clock.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your input, insight and participation. Since 2007 I have worked with wonderful people and enjoyed a lot of fun times. We have seen the political climate go through a number of shifts and many faces come and go. I appreciate the time all of my fellow podcasters and content creators have spent on my show as well as opening up their own time for me to participate.

While the weekly recordings of the podcast are stopping for now, I anticipate more activity on the Facebook page. I'm not shutting down the site or the conversation and I hope to restart the show some time in the future.

Until then, stay safe and keep talking!

New Video Uploaded - Opposition vs Hate

I've finally had the chance to clean up and release the first full episode of Driving Me Crazy, the new commute-cast video blog series that ties in with the podcast.  I really want to use these videos as a conduit for conversation about a variety of subjects.

The first one on the table is the concept that disagreement with or opposition to an idea immediately translates to hatred for those involved in the idea.

What are your thoughts on this subject?  What do you think of the video itself?  Let me know!  I'm working on a second video right now and hope to have it released before the end of the week.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 1: Changing Times and Predictions

We had a wonderful "re-launch" episode and things went without much of a hitch. This included a good discussion about the topic and an introduction of the new show concept.

Yes, I'm a week late on posting this to the site. There are a number of changes coming but right now things are too hectic to keep up.

Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).

Also, please be sure to visit our sponsor! You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audiobook by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up. We're recommending Exodus by Leon Uris as your free audio book with the trial.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #1: Changing Times and Predictions

This is a transitional period for our podcast as we shift from the East Coast Conservative Podcast to the next generation of our discussion, Front Porch Political Talk. Over the next month or two folks will see old logos, new logos, new show notes in old sites and new domain names. Thank you for your patience as we make the shift to the new show.

A part of this includes a new recording time and show format. For this week we're going to be looking at some predictions for the new year but in-line with the show concept we'll delve deeper than we used to into the concepts behind the articles, not just the articles themselves. This should be an interesting conversation!

Articles for this episode:
Other articles that could have been included in the list tonight but didn't make the cut due to time constraints:
You can join the conversation every Sunday night at 9:00pm. If you want to comment on any of the articles, please feel free to start a discussion here, or email them to conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Join us for the recording session, normally live at 9:00pm Eastern time by visitinghttp://www.talkshoe.com/tc/75570. You can also listen to our show and many other conservative podcasts at the Red State Talk Radio Network. If you want to listen to the podcast on your mobile phone, you can listen using Stitcher Radio.

Episode 363: Beginning to End

This was a great summary show for us and for the year. There was also a big announcement that folks will start to see beginning tomorrow. Yes, I'm late on this episode and yes I have a good excuse. Two of them actually…

First, it's New Years and work is super busy. Second, it's the end of the line for our podcast under the title of "East Coast Conservative Podcast". Beginning with the first episode of 2015, there are a number of changes that are going to happen:

  • Show Title is changing to the Front Porch Politics Show.
  • Recording time will be starting at 9:00pm instead of 8:30pm.
  • Work is beginning on integration with a sponsorship model for content.  The more sponsors we get, the more content we can produce.

Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).

Thank you so much for continuing to support the show!  I'm making these changes "in-place" in order to keep the history of the East Coast Conservative Podcast alive but there will be a new site and other resources released as soon as New Year's Insanity is done with.

Episode 345 Recording Delay

We are delaying our recording by a day, vacation got in the way of show prep!

HOWEVER, there is a change we're going to be making to the show and the audience is an integral part of it.  We're introducing something called "Mad Libs for President".  If you've never heard of the concept of Mad Libs, it's a short selection of text with key words removed.  The job of the audience is to provide words of the right type (noun, verb, adjective, adverb) without knowing where they go or how they will be used.  It promises to be entertaining if nothing else!

We're going to start this week.  Please send me the following words either as a comment on this post, a comment on the Facebook page or via email the following words and I'll put them together for tomorrow night's recording.  I need the following:
  • Article of Clothing (plural)
  • Part of the Body (plural)
  • Two (w) nouns
  • Six (6) Plural nouns
  • Six (6) Adjectives
  • One Verb
  • One Verb ending in "ing"
Please keep in mind that while this podcast requires a level of maturity is also must be fit for public presentation,  Please do not send any rude, crude or otherwise "bleep"able words.

Thanks!

Recording Delay for Next Episode

Due to a scheduling conflict, this week's podcast episode will be recorded on Monday, July 28th at 8:30pm.  Join us for the recording session if you can!  I will work on getting the articles together before the end of the night so folks will have more of a chance to prepare.

No Recording Tonight

Due to some unforeseen circumstances (not as serious as the last time) we will not be recording a new episode tonight.

Announcement: No New Episode This Week

We won't be recording an episode for this week.  There are some things that happened that must be attended to from a personal perspective to even schedule a different time.

We will be back to our regular schedule on Sunday, April 27th, 2014.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Episode 325: What Are We Learning?

I had to clarify with this episode that it's not, "what have we learned." Rather, it's about what we are learning based on the articles we discussed. We had an engaging and fun conversation.

Administrative note from Hatton: Episode posts to the main site may be delayed until after the end of April.  I'm working on finishing up my MBA and with the exception of time for show prep and recording/editing I have very little extra time or energy during the week.  I will try to get shows up to the site as quickly as possible.  If you want faster access to episodes you can subscribe to the show on iTunes or the main Talkshoe RSS feed.  The only disadvantage of subscribing there is any extra content I might post (highly unlikely for the next few months) would be missing.  I sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience.

We're still recommending The Libery Amendments by Mark Levin as your free audio book with the trial.

Follow us on Twitter @ECConservative to stay up-to-date with articles and check the website our our YouTube page for video comments when they're recorded. If you want to comment on something you can email conservativepodcast@gmail.com, post comments on the website or on our Facebook page. Thanks for listening!

Announcement: Talkshoe Maintenance

Happy New Year!

Unfortunately my first post of the year is to announce a temporary outage.  TalkShoe is in the process of upgrading their storage network, causing problems with anyone that wants to download the podcast or listen using the web player.  I will update this post as I learn more.

Announcement: Expansion Opportunity

During the last episode of the podcast I mentioned that there is an exciting opportunity available for the show.  We have been contacted by the folks over at Boost Radio Network.  This is a new internet only radio station that is launching in January 2014.  They are creating a network of shows that spans the spectrum, from politics to money to home improvement and more.

This opportunity has the potential to grow the audience in a number of different ways.  Our show will be run live during it's regular weekly broadcast.  We will still be distributing via TalkShoe, iTunes, Stitcher, the website and the Red State Talk Radio Network.  There is also the ability to use their interface which allows for live call-in participation.  Additionally there are potential advertiser opportunities based on the association with the network that will be a better deal for our show than what has been available in the past.

Unfortunately, participation in the network is not free.  Like many networks there is a charge for using the software and bandwidth.  I'm not going to go into the specifics for this, these fees are negotiated and contracted with each participating production.

This podcast has been a passionate but largely unfunded project for Ken and I up to this point.  This opportunity is game-changing but it is not something that we take lightly.  Our focus in going down this path is more about spreading our conservative message and influence and less about making any kind of return.  It's also not something that Ken and I can absorb so we are reaching out to our listening audience to help.  If you are interested in helping out, please continue reading.

Election Night Coverage

Yes folks, the election is finally upon us!  It is time for the citizens of the United States to practice their civic duty and cast their ballots for the people they feel best suited to serve the nation in a number of different races.  It is also time for people to vote on the various ballot initiatives that are presented to them.

I know that we're a conservative podcast, however if you follow us but not our ideology, it's still time for you to vote!  Let your voice be heard.

Now, for those of you that don't know who to vote for, I'll suggest that you take a peek over at ISideWith.com and take their quiz.  Their "candidate match-up" compares your answers and priorities with the people running for office in the Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, Constitution and Justice parties.  Not all candidates will be on all ballots but this gives you a percentage comparison for you to go on.

Tomorrow night we've got a special treat lined up for everyone!  Polls start closing at 7pm Eastern and that's when the traditional round-table podcasts will begin.  Adam Graham, host of the Truth and Hope Report will be providing the call-in space for 4 discussions, spaced to match the various poll closings.  Here's the schedule:

A Huge Thank You!

I wanted to take a moment to post some updates on the podcast listening audience.  Statistics are somewhat difficult to track as we have multiple distribution channels, so I'm going to hi-light the two that just floored me this week.

First of all, as many of you know our show is a part of the Red State Talk Radio network.  They track their statistics monthly and announce the top 5 in total listeners per month.  It was just announced that for the month of October, the East Coast Conservative Podcast was #4 (of 23 total shows) on the Top Listeners list on the station!  This is with our show running beside podcasts that record more episodes than we do!  That can only happen with your support and we sincerely appreciate it!

The second equally humbling statistic that came out is that this week's downloads on TalkShoe and iTunes absolutely decimated our all time top number of downloads!  The TalkShoe numbers are tabulated weekly and include downloads for all episodes from 1 to current (we're at 253).  Our previous high for downloads just over 500 for a single week.  While the numbers are still being counted, as of just after midnight the download count is currently over 700!

This means that folks are listening to me when I ask to, "blog about us, tell five of your friends."  We are humbled by your continual support.  Thank you so much for that and please keep it up!  Tell your friends about us, blog about us, follow the Facebook page and our Twitter feed.  If you're interested, check out the Audible.com trial and support the show.  If an article moves you, comment on it and share it with your own Twitter, Facebook or Blog.

Again, thanks so much and keep listening for different words in a different order!

Episode Recording Delay

Hey folks, just wanted to let everyone know that this week's episode will be recorded a day later than usual. Given travel and time zone changes, we thought it best to make the adjustment for this week.

I am going to try to get the show notes out today. This is only a change for this week. Thanks for your understanding and I hope to see you there!

No Podcast This Week

Our apologies for this week, folks, but there is not a podcast episode to post.  There was a serious technical issue with Talkshoe when we went to record on Sunday night and there is no time this week to do a make-up.  Unfortunately these things happen from time to time.

So... next weekend's episode will still be #238 and Dr. Paul Ibbetson has agreed to join us for the recording session.

Thank you for your continued support of the show!  Join us for the recording session if you can and if not, email any questions you might have for Dr. Ibbetson to conservativepodcast@gmail.com.

In the mean-time, here's a video my loving wife found that speaks truth from the past.  Make Mine Freedom!

File Server Back Online

Talkshoe has completed their upgrade and audio files are once again available for download.  I have re-synched the feed so the original posting on Episode 237 is working again, however if your podcast program doesn't want to refresh nicely, here's the link for the file again:

Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Problems with file download

It appears that the server hosting our file downloads is experiencing technical difficulties.  Right now episodes cannot be downloaded.  I will post again when the files are available.

*** UPDATED 7/3/2012 3:23pm Eastern ***

I was just notified of the following message on TalkShoe's home page.  This is what's impacting our downloads:

Dear TalkShoe Users,

In order to provide a better user experience we are increasing our storage capacity for your recordings (MP3s). As a result some users may periodically experience a delay in hearing the recording play back begin. If you experience a delay please consider downloading the recording at a later time. The storage capacity expansion is expected to be completed by July 6th. We appologize for any distruption this may cause for you. Thank you for your continued use and support of TalkShoe.

Transparency WIN!

No, the walls on Capital Hill didn't turn to glass, but there's now a new process for how we (that is, Ken and I) share the stories that we find that might make it on to the podcast - Twitter!

Instead of a sneaky set of emails, we'll be posting our finds on Twitter for all the world to see (and possibly comment) during the week.  I've already done a few.  You can find the articles by following @ECConservative or simply looking on the website - there's a "recent tweets" section there now!

Oh, and sorry to our Twitter friends that this announcement comes out twice.
