Front Porch Political Talk Episode 44: Difficult Conversation

Having had this conversation, or at least parts of it, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the outcome. We talked about the pseudo-caliphate to a large degree but even after all of that I don't know that we came to any level of agreement on how it should be viewed.

As I said in the intro, there are some trigger warnings here. Maybe I should have heeded to them.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #44: Difficult Conversation

There has been some time to let the dust settle from the attacks last week and after watching the lunacy from several places I felt it was time to have a difficult conversation. These are things that need to be said, whether about the terrorist group itself or the responses that have been made to their actions.

This is not going to be an especially "kid friendly" episode, regardless of the rules on language that govern our show. The topics are hard to discuss but I feel this is the time to talk about them. I'll issue this warning again at the beginning of the recording.

Articles for this episode:
No "extra articles" this week, the main ones are deep enough.

New Video Uploaded - Opposition vs Hate

I've finally had the chance to clean up and release the first full episode of Driving Me Crazy, the new commute-cast video blog series that ties in with the podcast.  I really want to use these videos as a conduit for conversation about a variety of subjects.

The first one on the table is the concept that disagreement with or opposition to an idea immediately translates to hatred for those involved in the idea.

What are your thoughts on this subject?  What do you think of the video itself?  Let me know!  I'm working on a second video right now and hope to have it released before the end of the week.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 43: Ed You Cate Shun

This episode went extremely well from a discussion perspective. Granted, we didn't get to as many of the articles as I had hoped. Such is the nature of things and we'll keep an eye on the news to see if they are worth bringing back in at a later date.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #43: Ed You Cate Shun

Given the events of this past week, I felt we needed to focus on education and learning some more about the world around us. To that end we are looking at a number of articles that we can take at least something away from.

While our thoughts and prayers are with those that have been impacted by the terror attacks in France, I made the conscious decision not to focus on them in the podcast. There are a few reasons for this, including the fact that the details of the situation are still being sorted out. There are plenty of people that have already jumped on various bandwagon topics and that's not where I want to be right now.

Articles for this episode:
I had enough articles this week to come up with two complete shows. I've included more than usual only because there was a lot going on this past week. They either didn't fit the topic or weren't enough to make the list.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 42: Addressing Issues

We didn't get to all of the articles but in many cases the issues were addressed. We did have a fun time with some of the articles and Joesf has a "coming out" statement that went somewhere I didn't expect it to.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #42: Addressing Issues

We've had our local elections for the year with some interesting outcomes. Even with a large number of incumbents winning there are several issues that appear to have been brought to the light of day which might be addressed. In this episode we will look at these issues and the actions that are being proposed to address them.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 41: Offense Taken

This episode was quite fun and thought provoking at the same time. Some questions were posed that we don't have perfect answers for and that leaves the door open for listeners to add comments of their own.

During the show, some extra links were shared. Listener Paul Scrabo mentioned Mike Rowe's reply to the article about "Hard Work" and Toawa mentioned that the same article remined him of the article about what to call theives in San Francisco.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #41: Offense Taken

It's difficult to find something that won't offend at least one small group of people these days. In this episode we are going to look at some examples of offense that were taken somewhere. Will we find the same insult or are these people just being dramatic?
