Non-Political Rant: The Reality TV Farce

I put this on Facebook last night after discovering the latest "Celeb-reality" TV show.  I know it isn't political but for me it just points out that some people will watch anything!

I have to vent for a minute - not about politics, but about TV and the latest "Celeb-Reality" show. Folks, I'm talking about ABC's Splash. That's right, from the network that brought us great things like "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition", "The Sing Off", "Dancing With the Stars" (hey, I don't like it but it's apparently got legs for the market) we now have a TV show with stars in a *diving competition*.

I kid you not... they've gone from changing the lives of families to putting Kendra Wilkinson, Katherine Webb, Ndamukong Suh, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Nicole Eggert, Rory Bushfield, Chuy Bravo, Drake Bell, Louie Anderson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar together in a diving competition coached by Greg Louganis.

I didn't even manage to make it past the opening. Really ABC? This is what people want to watch? For all it's McMansions, EMHE tugged at the heartstrings. The Sing Off was pure musical magic. Now you want to subject us to watching people learn how to dive and then compete against each other. According to the intro we also get to see, "what it took them to get there," along with the required (and in my opinion trite) complaints and bickering. We even get treated with Louie Anderson looking at the camera and giving us a triumphant, "yeah, bi*&^es!"

At least I'm not alone in my opinion of this latest example of the PayDay in the pool joke (for those that don't get the reference).  Reading Kathryn Smith at The Rebellion it appears that other folks with a brain think this show isn't worth a pool-toy rescue. Our only hope is that they let it sink under before it contaminates the waters too badly.

The fail bus has landed on your TV's, ladies and gentlemen, and ABC and the brain-dead execs that though up this waste are permanent fixtures! If you want to subject yourself to this floating turd, feel free but I have a feeling it's going to go down the drain fast. Here's the site, but don't blame me if it impairs your mental processes... http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/splash
