Episode 314: Reviewing the Year

This was an interesting review of the year with some new news, some old news and a bit of a diversion. We ended up spending time talking about the upcoming year's TV shows and what they represent in our country. Ken wasn't able to make the show due to a traffic jam but he did make it home safe and sound.

We've officially launched our funding campaign to join the Boost Network in January! We have a few days left to get to the first goal of $400 in order to officially join the network. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. If we do not make the goal then the money is going to be used to improve the podcast in some way, so don't think that your donation is going to just be lost.

Also, please be sure to visit our sponsor! You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audiobook by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up. We're still recommending The Libery Amendments by Mark Levin as your free audio book with the trial.

Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

Merry Christmas! The days seemed to get away from me posting this episode to the site and for that I apologize. This was a much more lively episode and we had a lot to discuss. It's interesting to listen to the agreements and disagreements even among our own callers. For example, Larry asked what good it did to bring up Mark Levin's comment about the Republican party and Ken was there to disagree with him and point out that it's a valid complaint. This was a thought-provoking show in a few different ways

Articles for Episode 313: Speaking What We Believe

With the blow-back on the Phil Robertson "Duck Dynasty" comments this past week, I thought it would be good for us to talk about the impacts of speaking what we believe. We're going to take it from a slightly different vantage point. We're going to talk about what we believe, what we see liberals and those considered mainstream republican and the reflection on their beliefs.

Our fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level is in full swing! The final goal of this campaign is $1,850 and will allow us to join the Boost Radio Network. This represents a huge change for us and we're excited to see the results. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 312: Follow the Power, Follow the Money

This was a bit more sedate of an episode. These happen from time to time, the subject is a solid one and the information is good. There are some areas where Joesf and I had different takes on an item, especially with the budget bill that was recently passed by the House.

Articles for Episode 312: Follow the Power, Follow the Money

A common phrase that is used in political conversation is, "follow the money." It's more than that in today's environment, we also have to, "follow the power." In this episode we look at a number of articles where we need to follow the power and sometimes follow the money.

We have launched a fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level. The final goal of this campaign is $1,850 and will allow us to join the Boost Radio Network. Announcement: Expansion Opportunity

During the last episode of the podcast I mentioned that there is an exciting opportunity available for the show.  We have been contacted by the folks over at Boost Radio Network.  This is a new internet only radio station that is launching in January 2014.  They are creating a network of shows that spans the spectrum, from politics to money to home improvement and more.

This opportunity has the potential to grow the audience in a number of different ways.  Our show will be run live during it's regular weekly broadcast.  We will still be distributing via TalkShoe, iTunes, Stitcher, the website and the Red State Talk Radio Network.  There is also the ability to use their interface which allows for live call-in participation.  Additionally there are potential advertiser opportunities based on the association with the network that will be a better deal for our show than what has been available in the past.

Unfortunately, participation in the network is not free.  Like many networks there is a charge for using the software and bandwidth.  I'm not going to go into the specifics for this, these fees are negotiated and contracted with each participating production.

This podcast has been a passionate but largely unfunded project for Ken and I up to this point.  This opportunity is game-changing but it is not something that we take lightly.  Our focus in going down this path is more about spreading our conservative message and influence and less about making any kind of return.  It's also not something that Ken and I can absorb so we are reaching out to our listening audience to help.  If you are interested in helping out, please continue reading.

Episode 311: Misconceptions and History

We had a very lively conversation regarding a couple of different items including minimum wage and Nelson Mandela. We were joined by Naj this week who offered a different perspective and some insights that added to the conversation. It was a very fun time.

One thing I mentioned during the show was to keep an eye on the site for some important announcements coming soon. We've got an opportunity that will be shared over the next couple of days and we'll be explaining what it would mean and how it would change things. Keep an eye here for more details.

There have been a number of historical and current items happen in the past week. Sadly, most of America seems to have either forgotten the facts behind the historical events or they have been deliberately misinformed. Episode 310: Bill of Goods

There are a lot of different areas where the American people has been sold a bad bill of goods. We only managed to scratch the surface of a few of them. This episode was a lot of fun and we've got so much more to discuss!

The show also starts its seventh season with this episode! We sincerely appreciate everyone's continued support and participation. There are some changes that we are investigating for the future but those are going to be a while in implementing.

Episode 308: Reassuring Words

Quite a trip down the metaphysical path tonight. We spent a lot of time talking about the Atheist megachurch and referencing the article about the athiest chaplain story from the past. We also discussed the statements made by John Kerry about the truthfulness of the President and related it to the fact that polls are now showing the American public disagree, at least where the Affordable Care Act is concerned.

Episode 306: Doubling Down

The politicians are doubling down and so are we! We had a lively discussion in this episode that included lots of laughs and some serious moments as well.

One of the interesting questions raised by Larry is what's going to happen in the future to the people pushing some of these questionable agendas. Sadly we can only assume the answer for the moment will be, "nothing."

Articles for Episode 306: Doubling Down

Given the season and the recent political events, you might expect that folks might take a bit of a breather. You'd be wrong. Politicians from both sides of the aisle are doubling down on their stances. In some cases they're bringing more evidence and in others they're standing by their claims. There are even some that are backpedaling to revise what they said to match reality.

In this episode we're going to be discussing a few different items that give examples of this. It's always an interesting discussion and we hope you can join us any Sunday night at 8:30pm eastern! Articles for this episode:

Episode 305: Compliance Factor

Happy Halloween! My apologies again on the delay of posting the episode. I should be back on my regular posting schedule starting with the next episode.  We made it through more of the articles and had a good discussion, the biggest question of compliance seems to be with some newly enacted laws.  I also have to share that, given the opening article, my son is going at Darth Vader for Halloween.

Articles for Episode 305: Compliance Factor

After talking about the concepts of the "Thought Police" last week, I thought it would be fitting to take a look at some areas where compliance is necessary. This necessity is driven either by requirement or in some cases common sense. In this episode we'll be looking at quite a few different items that have been brought up over the past few weeks, not all of them health care related.

Episode 304: Thought Police

This had to be one of the more vocal episodes that we've had in a while. Definitely on-topic and thought provoking! Articles for Episode 304: Thought Police

One of the things that is said constantly on this show is that people should make their own decisions about what's going on in the country and whether it's a good or bad thing. Apparently there are those that would prefer it not be that way. In this episode we're going to talk about their attempts to convince, sway or force the American public to look at events though their particular lens. Articles for this episode:
Those that watch our Twitter feed at ECConservative will notice that not all of the articles tweeted over the past week are showing up here this time. We had something of a "twittersplosion" and the articles below are the more relevant (or less repetitive) of the activity.

Episode 303: Cracks in the Facade

Yet again we have a case of an episode post lagging the recording by a week... I have plenty of reasons but again I apologize.  Maybe I should take a pay cut...

It turns out that folks didn't really disagree with the premise of this episode, that more and more of the American public are starting to see through the cracks at what's really going on in Washington.

Articles for Episode 303: Cracks in the Façade

There is so much media coverage about the failing health care websites and continued shutdown that we're going to be looking at other things in this episode. We're looking deeper, past the posturing and endless press conferences at some of the signs that the government is starting to crack.

Be sure, there are those stalwarts that will stick to their… positions. There are also articles that are coming out showing very disturbing events that, if done by anyone else, would generate calls for termination if not prison time. Their façade is starting to crack all over the place and even their usual cheerleaders can't patch everything up. Articles for this episode:

Episode 302: Out of Control

Well, I managed to forget to post this episode to the website for an entire week! There's really no excuse for that and I apologize. I could be snarky and blame it on the shutdown... but that'd be inaccurate.

It's extremely obvious that those making the decisions about what's being hit by the shutdown are picking the most painful aspects of government services to close. Thankfully, it appears that the American public isn't taking this, "cause pain and blame the other guy," technique all that well and there's not a lot the media can do to spin it.

Articles for Episode 302: Out of Control

The government shutdown is here and in full effect. It seems like, as with the sequester, administration officials are working to make it hurt the American people as much as possible. Democrats seem to be turning at best a malevolent stare at the people caught in the middle of a debate that should have happened years ago. At worst they appear to be actively working to come up with new ways to cause pain.

In all of this there are other things going on, but the antics of elected and appointed officials again capture our attention. In this episode we're going to talk about the shutdown, the not-so Affordable Care Act and other news items from the week. Articles for this episode:

Episode 301: What Are We Fighting For?

Most of the time we welcome input from people of all sides, in this episode we had to take the time to discuss a variety of areas that we feel are important enough to fight for. These weren't points for debate, rather they are things that we see the government, the democrats and the media are doing to try and change the nature of our country.

In this episode we're going to take a step back and look at the larger stage to see what else is being fought for (or against) at the national level. Articles for this episode:

Episode 300: Guns, Jobs and Money

We had an excellent time talking with Assemblywoman Jane Corwin from New York.  A large amount of the conversation was spent discussing the New York SAFE Act but several other topics were covered as well.  While we didn't touch a single one of the articles on the list, we definitely covered the subject material very thoroughly.  It's interesting to hear the situation from the viewpoint of someone that's involved in the process.

Articles for Episode 300: Guns, Jobs and Money

Tonight we are joined by a special guest, Assemblywoman Jane Corwin. Mrs. Corwin will be talking with us tonight about a variety of issues including the New York SAFE Act, Jobs, the New York economy and more. Along with the interview there are a number of other items that I've included in the show notes. We may or may not get to them, it all depends on the interview and the conversation around it. More about Jane Corwin:

Jane Lewis Corwin was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 4, 2008 and represents what is now the 144th Assembly District.

Jane is a proud full-time mother of three, Melanie, Kellie and Will, and, like any mother, she wants to give our children the best opportunity for a successful future in any endeavors they which to pursue. She continues to work tirelessly in representing the voice of her community in Albany so our children have those opportunities and are not forced to relocate due to a struggling economic and business climate.

Since being elected in 2008, Jane has stood firm in her message of fiscal conservatism, accountability for lawmakers, and focusing on growing our upstate economy by supporting small businesses.

Episode 299: Mind Your Own House Part 2

As promised, we continued going over the amendments proposed in Mark Levin's The Liberty Amendments. It's an interesting collection of history and suggestions for cementing the spirit of the founders back into the Constition. Again there wasn't one that every person on the call agreed with but the book brings out the way the country has changed substantially since its founding.

Be sure to be available for our 300th episode! We are going to be joined by Assemblywoman Jane Corwin for the show to talk about New York, Gun Control and what's going on to address the overreach that has happened in the state. It's going to be a special episode for a special milestone!

Articles for Episode 299: Mind Your Own House Part 2

There's the phrase, "Mind Your Own House," which is typically uttered to someone that is too busy calling out the failings of another while their own situation isn't much better. We seem to be in that state in the US now. We are continuing the conversation around Mark Levin's proposed Liberty Amendments and some news stories that fit in neatly with his suggestions.

Episode 298: Mind Your Own House

For this episode and the next we're going over the amendments proposed in Mark Levin's The Liberty Amendments. It's an interesting collection of history and suggestions for cementing the spirit of the founders back into the Constitution.  Our original plan was to cover all of the amendments in one show but it was decided to stretch them over two shows to give the concepts a modicum of justice.

It was definitely an interesting conversation.  I don't think there is one that every person on the call agreed with but it brings out the way the country has changed substantially since its founding.  The proposals in the book bring up the discussion points that have been buried in today's politically correct environment.

Be sure to be available for our 300th episode! As I hinted at during the podcast, we'll have a special guest for the show to talk about New York, Gun Control and what's going on to address the overreach that has happened in the state. It's going to be a special episode for a special milestone!

Episode 297: Discriminating Minds

The question of the night was if certain groups were being discriminated against and there was not a specific answer. We shuffled articles around a bit and had a good time.

I'm finishing up my listen of The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. They list not only the changes that Mr. Levin recommends but also the historical back-story for each one. We'll actually be taking some time during upcoming episodes to discuss these proposals at length, so if you want to participate in them take advantage of an Audible credit and get the book now!  What Audible credit?  You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audio book by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up.

Articles for Episode 297: Discriminating Minds

Given that this week included the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech at a rally in Washington DC, I wanted to look at some modern impacts of the policies and how off track or obscure some of them have to go to attempt to relate to it. In this episode we are going to be talking about a number of different subjects, most of them claiming discrimination. Are those claims valid?

Episode 296: Roles

This was a rather interesting episode. We didn't make it through all of the articles but that's not a big surprise. The articles clearly pointed out a point that government has expanded well beyond its originally designed role set.

I did assign a bit of homework with this episode. Write down the job descriptions for elected officials you can think of without looking them up, then go online and check your work. I mentioned President, Federal Senator and Representative, State Senator and Representative and Governor. If you have other offices you want to look up feel free!
