They're Getting Desperate on the Left

You can tell someone is getting desperate in a debate or argument when they start name-calling and drop all pretense of trying to actually discuss policy and concept.  That is what has happened between the "left" and the Tea Party at this point.  Okay, Some might say that I'm writing this article a few months too late.  You may well be right.

It does not mean that I shouldn't write it!

Let's take the example I found today at a Huffington Post article titled Beck's Restoring Honor Rally: Rate the Teabaggers! (PHOTOS).  This 'Hot or Not' style line-up of pictures taken during today's events have been selected by the author/photagrapher to define his concept of the Tea Party.  Readers are further given the ability to rate the 'Patriotism' of the person or people pictured.

Seriously?  This is all that they can do?  Pick on people because of how they look at a rally.  I hear they're taking submissions at PeopleofWalMart.com too!

Okay, some of the pictures are funny.  I don't disagree with any of the shirts and the people are generally not posing.  What makes this comment-worthy is the fact that this guy took the time to pick on the people at the rally rather than comment on the rally.  He let others do that for him.  On the same site (of course, I would expect nothing less) I saw articles about turnout and interpretation of message by others.

In reading through the interviews and articles, I can sum them up with, "We went, didn't see many blacks.  Everyone was nice and we couldn't find anyone to back our concepts.  So instead, we'll focus on what (*insert name here*) has said in the past and how (*insert hate-conecept name here*) it was."  They don't even try to address the validity of the issue in most cases.  Even the title sets that tone from the very beginning.

This leads me to a simple conclusion - they know they've lost the argument.  Now comes the time when they have to attempt to invalidate the claims using insults, innuendo and false allegations.  This is why the recent t-shirt store went online with slogans that I refuse to reprint or link to.  There is no way that they can publically say, "no, America, the Federal Government has not grown too big."

Too many people already know that they are lying.

Episode 142: Talking Themselves Out of a Job

It seems like the Democrats are hell-bent on talking themselves out of a job... at least that is what it seems like, based on the articles we have to discuss tonight!

We had a great turn-out tonight, both in SecondLife and in Talkshoe. Thanks to everyone that showed up to be a part of the podcast!

Click Here to download the show or open the Blubrry player on the right (the blue round thing). Thanks for listening!

Bikini-clad strippers protest church in rural Ohio (Courtesy of listener Alan Dennis)

  • What do you make of the offers of assistance for the protestors by the church members? Were they simply showing compassion or trying to look good for the media?

Philadelphia wants bloggers to start paying taxes

  • Philadelphia is trying to enforce a business tax against hobbyists. What are the chances that other cities will try to follow suit?
  • Why would a city try to impose on a group that, as one person in the story mentions, "picked the one group that is guaranteed to make a public stink about it in ways that, for example, high school kids mowing lawns couldn't."?

Six Months to Go Until The Largest Tax Hikes in History

  • Should we look for a congressional call for a raising or abolishing of the Alternative Minimum Tax?
  • These increases include the front-loading of taxes for "Obamacare." Some elected officials have spoken to the concept of defunding the process. What does that then do with the taxes levied here?
  • What happened to the statement that the Obama administration has made about not paying more taxes?
  • On his show today, Bob Brinker identifies the mosque issue as a "red herring" as an attempt to distract the public from the fiscal issues. What other red herrings could they try to throw out?

Medicare drug plans may change for some (Hat Tip to FreedomProject.org)

  • Medicare officials dismissed the Avalere estimate without offering their own number. "Anybody who is producing that kind of analysis is simply guessing..." Does that mean that those officials are also guessing?
  • Does this add fire to statements by those on the right about what is in the health care bill or will it be hidden by the media?
  • How much of a bump do you think this will make in Tea Party or anti-incumbent sentiment numbers?

EDITORIAL: Obama administration indicts America (Hat tip to The Impeach Obama Campaign)

  • Can this be considered yet another apology by the Obama administration or is it another blame-Bush session?
  • The authors claim that the United States does not, by filing the report, "acknowledge commonality with states that systematically abuse human rights." How will other countries react to this report?
  • Some identify this report as a hit-piece by the Obama administration against Arizona. What authority does the UN have over a state or provience of a member state?

Episode 141: Who Are You Going to Believe?

This weekend we are going to look at some statements that people are making and discuss who (or what) we do or don't believe.

Click Here to download the show or open the Blubrry player on the right (the blue round thing). Thanks for listening!

Tonight's show had a lot of participation in SecondLife and we had an absolute blast! I also have my computer back so no more text-only mode for me. The folks at the GOP of SL are in the middle of remodeling their Cafe but there was enough room for everyone there.

In the previous post I gave out the articles, here are the questions:
  1. Canadian police find bears guarding pot crop

    • What would PETA do?
    • The article mentions that the bears might have to be put down. Can you think of other ways to handle the bears?
  2. Paladino Unveils Welfare Reform

    • What do you think of this idea?
    • Is he saying that everyone on welfare has hygene issues?
  3. Jurors Fault Complexity of the Blagojevich Trial, Blagojevich: Let them retry me

    • This decision has the prosecutors swearing to re-try him. What do you think the chances are of him getting a different result?
    • Some have suggested that there was a "plant" in the jury. What are your thoughts?
    • What are your opinions of the statements that Blago made after the first decision was handed down?
  4. 'Obama is a Christian', Stained-Glass Ceiling: Would America Vote for a Non-Christian?

    • Why is the White House pushing this issue so much?
    • Do you think Obama is Christian? Do you think he is Muslim?
    • On a bigger issue and referencing the second article, do you think an openly practicing Muslim could be elected President?
  5. Charlie Cook to Dems: You know you’re going to get totally destroyed in November, right? Biden Urges D.N.C. to Reject Grim Election Forecast

    • Are these more signs of the Tea Party and general anti-incumbent attitude in action or is the media trying to send signals to core voters?
    • What do you predict for the mid-terms, a change of leadership in the House, Senate, Both or Neither?

Episode 140: New Direction or Wrong Direction?

Let's face it, folks, the current President is working very hard to fill as many promises as he can before November's election. He promised to take the country in a new direction. He promised to change things. Well, he did, and tonight we're going to examine some of those directions. Are they new or are they just wrong?

Click Here to download the show or open the Blubrry player on the right (the blue round thing). Thanks for listening!

Something we mention during the show but I'll also take the time to say something here - get ready for a slight change in the format of the show. As you can see in the show notes, we're discussing fewer articles and identifying specific questions to answer about each one. If you want to throw in your thoughts on a question, feel free to leave a comment or leave a voice comment!

This week's episode took a lot of editing! I sincerely apologise for the amount of time that it took and in the end I could not remove all of the extra noises, specifically the beep that seems to have been coming from my Verizon phone. I did edit out the dead air where we reconnected phones and talked about the technical issues. Thank you so much for your patience!

Tonight's show notes:
  • Good Grub Guide! The UN says eating creepy-crawlies will save the planet ... Our girl finds that hard to swallow

    1. How quickly do you think the American public would adopt such a concept if the Hollywood Left were to come out promoting it?
    2. The stated motive for this suggestion is based on this: "The UN is considering strategies to cut levels of meat consumption worldwide as part of its commitment to stamp out famine and cut global warming."

      Based on that:

      • How would the increased consumption of creepy-crawlies lower the consumption of animal, poultry and marine meat?
      • Given the US (and other countries) requirements for packaging, labeling, marketing, testing and distributing, how would adding this poor excuse for Escargot decrease global warming?
  • Socialists launch blunt clothing line against the tea party movement.

    1. How does this fit in wth the liberal defintion of hate speech and intolerance?
    2. What does this mean for those who would try to bring "bipartisan" back in to national politics?
    3. What is the proper response for this?
  • Voters Strongly Believe Most in Congress Are For Sale

    1. How do you think the recent ethics trials of two long-standing congress members impacted this survey?
    2. Does this mark a success or failure of the widely proclaimed promise to "change things" in Washington that have been made by current majority leadership?
    3. If the Republicans were in control of things do you think this would be any different?
  • Pentagon belt-tightening will cut jobs

    1. What does this do for the current operations in the middle east?
  • The Obama presidency increasingly resembles a modern-day Ancien RĂ©gime: extravagant and out of touch with the American people

    1. What could the Obama family do to change this assessment, and do you think they would do it?
  • Obama defends Ground Zero mosque

Obama has since "clarified" his statements, saying "In this country we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion,” Obama said when asked about his remarks at a White House dinner Friday marking the start of Ramadan. He did, however, insist that his defense of the organizers' right to build the mosque did not mean he endorsed the project.

"I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there," Obama continued. "I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what our country is about. And I think it's very important as difficult as some of these issues are that we stay focused on who we are as a people and what our values are all about."
    1. Is this evidence of someone in the administration actually looking at polls and instructing the President to safely backpedal or are these comments genuine?
    2. What do you think the media, both national and international, will do with this series of statements and sound clips?
Share your thoughts and answers in the comments for tonight's show! As I say in the podcast, if you like the show, blog about us and tell four friends and blog about us! If you didn't like tonight's show, we invite you back next week where you will hear different words in a different order.

Obama supports Ground Zero Mosque

By SecondLife Author QWERTY Beeswing
Article Reference: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/41060.html

After weeks of silence on the controversial subject, President Obama finally speaks out in favor of building a mosque near the site of the September 11 attack of The World Trade Center.

In his speech, Obama says, “Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground”. He made this statement at a White House dinner celebrating the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. He continues his statement with, “But let me be clear: as a citizen and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.”

Ground zero being hallowed ground...what exactly does that mean to President Obama? Do you think he means he has remorse for what happened or for him is it hallowed ground because of the Islamic victory against the west? Do you find this sort of talk coming from a Muslim offensive? Meaning; him saying that it's hallowed ground, and implying that he sympathizes with Americans when in reality he is probably standing with Muslims and enjoying this trophy to their victory? I think we all know that we have religious rights in this country and we also have the right to build a place of worship on any piece of private property we want. That is not what's in question here. What's in question is...is building the mosque “there” the right thing to do? I see this as an insensitive act lacking consideration for the American people and the families that lost loved ones in the attack.

Now I ask you, what does Obama gain by supporting this? 70% of U.S. citizens disapprove of it. That's a very unpopular stance for someone who's approval ratings are at their lowest levels since his being sworn into office. The only logical explanation I can come up with is the favor that this will bring him from Islamic leadership here in our country and abroad.

Wouldn't it make sense that a man promoting harmony among all religions would instead suggest that the mosque be built at another location to promote this peace?

I think the message Obama is sending is very clear. I will stand with Islam and not what is right or what the people want.

We have a chance to counter-balance this socialist/Islamic president in November. I hope that each and every one of you reading this or listening to the pod cast will take some time to research the candidates and find out where they stand before we blindly put someone into office, like Obama, who doesn't care who his boss is or what’s best for the country.

Monday Evening Announcements

Monday Started Early and is Way Too Long

Just a quick update on the status of Episode 140.  It's been recorded and is in the process of being edited.  Unfortunately time is neither my friend nor friendly.  I'll have that show online as quickly as I can.

In other news, I received the following group notice from the GOP of Second Life:
For personal reasons we will be closing the GOP Cafe in its current form on Sagamore Island. While we hope to be back in another form soon, for now we will be supporting our party virtually. I want to thank all of you who over the past 2 years have visited the Cafe. It was created on the concept that ideas and views could be discussed and debated without the acidic retoric seen in some places. We succeeded more than we failed. Our eyes remain on victory in November and a new Republican Majority.

As of this moment, Sagamore is closed an no longer the home of the GOP of Second Life. I'e been assured that this is a "for the momentThe group owners are in the process of identifying a new home for the group. In the meantime, we'll be finding a new home in Second Life.

Finally, keep an eye on the site in the future.  Tonight we post the first article by our guest writer.  For shows moving forward I'm going to work to post the list of articles and questions on the site before the show.

Episode 139: Acting as They Should

In this weekend's episode we're mostly going to discuss stories that didn't get attention. Call them the "stories behind the stories." One of the problems with a 24 hour news cycle and the ADD pubic attention span is that these things just get glossed over.

Episode 138: Consideration

We're back with a new location in SecondLife and somewhat refreshed from the vacation! Tonight's episode was a bit bumpy but a whole lot of fun.

I'm not going to ask, "why did they do this," for the articles tonight. Instead I'm going to ask, "did they consider the consequences?" In most cases the answer is a resounding, "no."
