Episode 70: Tea Party Reconsiders Vetting Congress

In today's episode we had a few different subject to cover. In our discussion we were joined by Debra JM Smith of InformingChristians.com and "Shamrock Jim" of The Zoo Radio Show. There was also a great crowd in both the SecondLife and TalkShoe chat rooms! On tonight's show we had three main elements to cover, all of them somewhat disparate. The majority of the show centered around a New York judge's ruling against the FDA, directing them to reconsider the age restrictions on the Plan B pill. I also had to play the pity point for the Obama administration's new hires. Apparently they're running into that no-lobbyist rule and it's slowing things down. Gee, who would have thought that it would be hard to find qualified specialists in DC that did not have any lobbying connections? There's a Tea Party running across this land! Tonight I played the new Tea Party Anthem by Lloyd Marcus that had the folks in SecondLife dancing in the aisles! If you're feeling "TEA'd" (that's short for Taxed Enough Already!) you can go to TeaPartyDay.com to find out more. Finally, there were two different stores of Congressional probes. Each one provides an example of how much make-work the folks on the Hill have to come up with for themselves. They also show the overriding theme that people cannot make decisions on their own without the Feds involvment. Articles discussed in the show:

Who Am I?

I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women. I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me.. My mother died at an early age from cancer. Later in life, questions arose over my real name. My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate. I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs & didn't follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny. I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

New Obama Comic

Every morning I have my routine. It includes the usual shower, breakfast, feed the kids and read my comics. I'm not afraid to admit the fact that I still read them. Heck, there's a ton of social commentary hidden in those panels. I was reading through my daily list of web comics and came to the comic at Dueling Analogs and pretty much fell out of my seat laughing.

Click the image above for the full comic and to read the authors comments on the AIG issue.
Now for those that don't get the "All Your Base" reference, let me point you over to Wikipedia. In short, it's a bad translation of a game script. That's what this whole mess surrounding AIG and bonuses feels like, a bad joke!

Episode 69: Misdirection of America's Attention

Tonight we decided to talk about things that were getting missed by the major media outlets - or they were being covered on page C-75 of the business section! The main focus was to bring out those stories that have been covered up by the wall-to-wall coverage of things like the AIG outrage. Now, I'm not going to accuse the media or the Democrats of doing anything as underhanded as using diversionary media release tactics. Then again, there once was an aspirin factory... Tonight we found some news items that have been glossed over and three specific bits of legislation. These bits of congressional language got some coverage in the past but have had movement that has gone mostly ignored. Along with a great crowd in Second Life, we were joined on the call by "Wacko Bob" who is associated with the ... Tonight's hidden gems included the following:

Where Would You Rather Be?

I have a question. First allow me to point out some recent events for you
  • The economy is in the tank. Our 401k's are in even worse shape.
  • Our government is considering nationalizing the banking industry.
  • Mexican drug violence is spilling over our border.
  • And the Russians are rearming!
Here's my question: with all this mayhem and strife shouldn't the President be hunkered down in a bunker some where solving these issues?

How on God's Greens Earth, with all that is going on in this Country of ours, does our President find time to discuss his NCAA picks on ESPN? OK so I have two question. My apologies! Everything is falling apart and he is talking college basketball with Andy Katz on ESPN! WHAT?!?!?! He has time for this? Is he composing classical symphonies in his spare time? No, he's just flying out to California to be on the Tonight Show, "Hi Jay"... If I were a team in the NCAA tourney this year I'd be concerned. A lot of his "picks" have been (tax) cheats. I don't think I'd want to be on his bracket!

EPISODE 68a: AIG Executive Bonuses

Here's a new audio comment regarding the AIG executive bonus debacle that's been growing faster than a California wildfire. I don't agree with all the hype and fuss, mainly because there's a huge lie that's been perpetuated when it comes to the bonuses paid. Amazingly, I found my details in the New York Times! 400 people got bonuses, the biggest of which is $6.5 million. The smallest? How does $1,000 sound? And these are people that agreed to take a smaller bonus than their contract stated and work for $1 per year. Episode 68: Testing Obama's Overhauls

Tonight's show had a slew of technical issues - for SecondLife being "laggy" to TalkShoe's streaming audio and VoIP services being down! Ken and I recorded our show and then I managed to edit it, taking out my screaming and his laughing at me. We did actually manage to talk about a few subjects.
We had also planned (and talked about at the beginning of the show) to discuss an article where Obama calls for overhaul of earmarks. Due to the technology issues we had, it did not get covered. Maybe later! If you want to send comments, please email them to conservativepodcast@gmail.com or post them on the web site.

Ice Cream: A Cool Analogy

This is something I found as I poked around the Internet - it was originally attributed to a teacher in the Nashville area (hat tip to The Liberty Tree Lantern).

From a teacher in the Nashville area.

Who worries about “the cow” when it is all about the “Ice Cream?

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year.
The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president.

We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.

We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.  The class had done a great job in their selections.

Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia’s mother.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best.

Everyone applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, “If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.” She sat down.

The class went wild. “Yes! Yes! We want ice cream.” She surely could say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn’t sure.  Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it? She didn’t know.

The class really didn’t care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.

Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and fifty-two percent of the people reacted like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other forty-eight percent of us know we’re going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

Episode 67: Socialism and Legalism

Our episode tonight has a secondary title - "Socialist porn book attacks Rush while Officers scream." This week provided a lot of different subjects to speak about! Interestingly, there were a lot of side conversations in Second Life, some of which I was able to bring in to the show. As an example, Trinity wanted to know why we were nit-picking on Obama's actions and not talking about the 900B being spent. In short, we've talked about it, we're working on it, we're going to talk about it again. I've actually worked hard to not talk about taxes and spending and earmarks and pork. Why? Well, there needs to be more than just that discussed and we have a limited time format. So we talked about it for a little while and then moved on to the topics of the evening, which included the following articles:

Clip from Episode 66 on YouTube!

One of our SecondLife listeners decided to grab a video clip of the simulcast from Episode 66. He's posted it on YouTube - we're going to see about getting more up there as well. For now though, here's the clip:
Let me know what you think!

Episode 66: Obama, Rush and Israel - Porn or Coffee?

We had a fun time talking about a few different subjects! As the Talkshoe teaser mentioned, "How Obama's speech was scary, Rush's speech was right and Israel is getting hit with rockets again. Also an example of using research to prove a point not made and a coffee shop that's heating up!" If you are in the Buffalo area and want information on the Tea Party, check out Political Class Dismissed.
